Take Home Design-A-Plate FAQ

How do I participate in Take Home Design-A-Plate?

Stop by the library beginning Monday October 5 to pick up a Design-A-Plate packet. Create your drawings at home then return the completed packet, including payment, to the library by 5:00 pm on Tuesday October 20. Packets are available for pick up both upstairs in the Children’s Room and downstairs.

How does Design-A-Plate work?

Use any art supplies, except glitter, to create a design on the provided template. Markers may be borrowed from the library to take home. The templates are scanned and sent to the Makit factory where they are made into plates and bowls. NOTE: color of finished item may not exactly match the color used on the template.

Can I trace my child’s hand on a plate or bowl?

Due to the manufacturing process, handprints can only be made on the 8-inch plate. Handprints on bowls would be shrunk and handprints on 10-inch plates would be enlarged so neither would produce the accurate size of your child’s hand. ALL designs containing handprints will be made into 8-inch plates.

Is there an age limit for Design-A-Plate?

No- Design-a-Plate is great for children of all ages and it is fun for adults too!

What is the cost for Design-A-Plate?

The cost is $6.00 per item for both plates and bowls. The amount covers the processing cost of each item. The $6.00 is a reduced rate since the library places such a large order. Payment is due when the completed drawings are dropped off at the library. Checks made out to Brooks Memorial Library are preferred. Exact cash amount also accepted- change will not be available. NEW: Sliding Payment Scale- families are welcome to pay what they can.

When will I get my plate or bowl?

Plates and bowls are expected to be available for pick up in the Children’s Room by December. We will post a notice on our website when the plates and bowls are ready to be picked up. Since the plates and bowls are sent away for processing, we cannot guarantee when they will arrive.

Will you call me when my plate or bowl is ready?

No. You are welcome to call the Children’s Room at 254-5290 ext. 1210 or check our website to see if the plates and bowls are ready for pick up but due to the large number of participants we do not call everyone when the plates and bowls arrive.
